Dumfries and Galloway had suffered a miserable early summer with much rain after a very dry spring, which resulted in dramatic hill fires. The day of the show started with great promise. Trade exhibitors, stock exhibitors and the general public supported the show well. However we experienced a dramatic prolonged hail and rain storm which caused local flooding on the showfield and car parks just as the parade was getting started.
The Directors would like to express their thanks to the many stewards and attending members without whom the smooth running of the show would not be possible. The Directors also appreciate the support given by stock, trade exhibitors and sponsors as well as townspeople and the farming community.
In 2018 the Show hosted the Scottish National Hereford Show and the Bluefaced Leicester Progney Show.
There were new classes in the sheep section for Kerry Hill and Blue Texel.
Entertainment included Pedal Power v Parkour, a vintage machinery display, a display by Dumfries & Stewarty Foxhounds, Daffy Dill, Douglas The Clown and the Young Farmers Tug O’ War.
Details of the 2019 Show, which will be held on Saturday 3rd August, will appear here when they are available.
