2014 Dumfries Show

In contrast to the previous year, spring came relatively early and was followed by a good growing summer season, so all boded well for a well-supported show.

Livestock entries were on a par with the previous years.  Cattle and goat sections were well supported with no major changes.  In the sheep section we had a new breed class – Berrichon Du Cher.  The sheep inter-breed section saw a change in judging, in that one judge was appointed as an overall judge rather than all sheep judges being involved in this.  This seemed to meet with approval in general.  In the horse section there was also a new class for retired race horses which met with an excellent entry.

Home and Garden was of its usual high standard.  The Food Festival had multiple stands from local suppliers, although we are still trying to entice new exhibitors and the cheese competition seems to be growing year by year.

However, on the Saturday of the show, we were not so fortunate and consistent rain throughout the day on top of a dry ground meant that conditions for showing livestock were treacherous and a decision had to be made at the last minute to cancel the parade of livestock, although entertainment still went ahead.  The winner of the J M Rome award in 2014 year was Charles Cloy of Harbro and there were 3 recipients of long service medals.

The Show Society is deeply indebted to all livestock exhibitors, trade stand exhibitors and sponsors of the show.  Also to the stewards, attending members and directors, who give up their time freely and willingly to assist with the running of the show.

Dumfries Show 31st July & 1st August 2020 – Cancellation

It is with deep regret and sadness that due to the deteriorating situation surrounding Coronavirus (Covid-19), the Dumfries & Lockerbie Agricultural Society Directors, after taking careful account of the latest UK and Scottish Government and Public Health guidance, are today announcing the cancellation of the 2020 Dumfries Show due to be held on  31st July and 1st August.

As a responsible event organiser we take our public health responsibilities very seriously and with the Government advising against attending mass gatherings and further action relating to social distancing and self-isolation, the Society felt there was no other option in the interest of protecting all our competitors, exhibitors, members, visitors and volunteers during this period of national public health uncertainty.

We will be contacting all our stakeholders and partners (with all our Trade Stands, Sponsors, Judges, Affliations, etc.) to discuss what this announcement means for each of you.  Please can I ask that you bear with me whilst I do this and wait for me to contact you rather than calling the office.  I will be in touch as soon as I possibly can.

We hope to welcome you all back to the 2021 Dumfries Show on Friday 6th and Saturday 7th August and we thank you all for your continued support.

Wishing you, your families and businesses all the very best for the coming days, weeks and months.

Stay safe.
